Executives of the Association of Student Communicators (ASCOM), Abraham Adesanya Polytechnic chapter, on Thursday, October 17, handed over to new executives who will pilot the association's affairs for the next year. ASCOM is a student body that governs students in the mass communication department.

Recall that on June 14th, students elected new executives producing the first female president, Miracle Ogbonna.

Former president Ohwonigho John, who handed over to his successor highlighted his achievements as association president.

John said his administration was able to bring students together for a common goal, build relationships with other student associations, promote unity amongst students, and celebrate the department's tenth anniversary.

“ I strived to meet the expectations of the students by actively listening to their concerns and working to implement initiatives that would benefit the entire student body. While I aimed to address their needs and provide effective leadership, meeting every expectation can be challenging sometimes,” he said.

While highlighting his challenge, John noted that he had to make tough decisions, and faced obstacles but found ways to overcome them.

He advised the new president to lead with empathy, listen to the needs of the students, and foster strong teamwork within the executive body.

“Stay open to feedback, be adaptable, and always prioritise the student body's best interests. Also, consult and think deeply before taking action in challenging situations,” he emphasized.

The new president, Miracle Ogbonna promised to bring changes to the association.
