The Association of Student Communicators (ASCOM), Abraham Adesanya Polytechnic chapter, yesterday, held its election, producing the first female president in the department's 10-year history in a low-turnout election.

Miracle Ogbonna, who emerged victorious at the poll, garnered 233 votes against her opponent, who had 72 votes. The election, which was observed to be peaceful, recorded a low turnout of students in a department with more than 2,000 students.

Other elected executives include Ezoirigbor Wisdom, General Secretary; Kareem Khadijat, Welfare Director; Jimoh Taiwo, Auditor; Oyedele Oluwaferanmi, Treasurer; Olugebebi Temiloluwa, Social Director; Orekan Anifa, Financial Secretary; Quadri Quawiyy, Sport Director; Adegbola Oluwatobi, Assistant Sport Director; Solomon Destiny, Assistant Financial Secretary; Bashiru Mistura, Assistant PRO; Ogundele Samuel, Assistant Social Director; and Bello Emmanuel, Assistant Treasurer.

Controversies trailed the buildup to the election as several candidates were disqualified during screening for not meeting the required 2.50 CGPA. Additionally, less than 48 hours before the election, the vice presidential candidate under Team Restructure, Adelabi Oluwamuremide, was asked to step down over a petition sent to the Head of the Department, containing several allegations.

UCJAAPOLY gathered that details of the investigation have yet to be revealed.
