Media Foundation To Train AAPOLY Campus Journalists On Safety Practices

In a bid to equip journalists under the Union of Campus Journalists, Abraham Adesanya Polytechnic (UCJAAPOLY) with essential skills in safety practices and effective reporting for influence, the Africa Foundation For Young Media Professionals (AFYMP), will on Wednesday, 24th January, conduct a training at Abusi Edumare, the annex campus Abraham Adesanya Polytechnic (AAPOLY). 

AFYMP is a Pan-African non-profit initiative dedicated to elevating the standards of media professional practice, particularly among young individuals.

A total of 30 campus journalists are expected to be trained by the organization, which will help them in their professional practice. The training will expose them to journalistic safety guides and practical knowledge for handling challenging situations that journalists may encounter. 

According to the executive director of AFYMP, Yinka Olaito, the training is essential so that campus journalists can understand the tightrope they must walk through daily and prepare to navigate the terrain.

“ Why journalists' safety is universal, with several unique features according to country context and system of governance, safety for campus and freelance journalists has some technicalities because, unlike the fully employed journalists, when things go south,  they do not have real and concrete backing except that of the national or global unions that fight for journalists at large.

“A campus or freelance journalist  must understand these intricacies and walk/work within such to escape untold hardship,” he said.
