The
Department of Mass Communication at Abraham Adesanya Polytechnic is abuzz with
preparations for the highly anticipated Annual Traditional African
Communication (TAC) Day. In an interview with the Lecturer in charge of TAC, Mrs.
Adeoye, it was revealed that the event promises to be a vibrant celebration of
African culture and communication.

According
to Adeoye, the preparations for TAC Day are in full swing, and with the
dedication from her and the students, no stone will be left unturned to ensure
a memorable and engaging event. Dance rehearsals, brand sponsorships, and
general African representations are among the key elements being worked on.

“The
program comes up on the 27^th of July and we are preparing
vigorously. For every kind of drums that we need for the presentation by the 6
tribes, we have brought them in already. All the types of drums in Africa are
already in our custody. The tribes they are to portray, from Egypt, South
Africa, down to the Kanuris, AkwaIbom, IjeEgba, (Ijebu and Egba) and Benue;
activities are being finalized as we speak.

Talking about the students’ energy and how they feel about the event, Adeoye noted that she and the students are on the same page. “Although some of them may be a little uninterested, considering the kind of disposition that students generally show towards work. However, I can say categorically that majority of them are giving 100% because there are some sectors that I have not even delved into that the students have already actualized concerning the event”.

Adeoye stated that while she wants the students to perfect their rehearsals, she has also ensured that the preparations do not interfere with any of their courses so as not to jeopardize their academics in any way.

Dance
plays a significant role in showcasing the diversity and beauty of Africa and
it will be one of the central features of the TAC Day. Students are
passionately rehearsing traditional dances from various African cultures, and according
to Adeoye, their dedication is commendable.

She
mentioned that in addition to dance and other cultural representations, brand
sponsorships are being sought to enhance the event's success. By partnering with
reputable brands, she aims to provide a platform for showcasing
African-inspired products and services. “Letters have been written and will be dispatched
to several quarters including traditional chiefs and government officials. And
to our advantage, our dance instructor, the Abuletic King, has promised to talk
to them at the Ministry of Culture and Tourism. This collaboration will not
only add value to TAC Day but also create opportunities for students to network
with industry professionals”.

Furthermore,
the lecturer emphasized the importance of general African representations
during the event. Various aspects of African culture, such as fashion, arts,
crafts, and cuisine, will be showcased to create an immersive experience for
attendees. Through these representations, TAC Day aims to foster an appreciation
for African traditions and promote cultural diversity.

"TAC
Day is an occasion for students to delve into the richness of African
communication practices, learn from the entertainment angle and explore its
relevance in today's world. The government needs to ensure that their policies
are seamless so that institutions can easily reach out to them whenever things
like this come up; even though it is the government that is supposed to show
their interest in cultural development that is being projected by schools at
every point in time" Adeoye added.

The
Annual Traditional African Communication (TAC) Day holds a special place in the
calendar of Abraham Adesanya Polytechnic's Department of Mass Communication. It
serves as a reminder of the importance of traditional communication methods and
their continued significance in contemporary society. As the preparations for
TAC Day continue, excitement is building among students and the Department
