The football team of the Mass Communication Department, Abraham Adesanya Polytechnic, yesterday, won the Rector’s Cup Competition, after beating their relentless opponents; Business Administration 5-4 in penalties.

Both football team’s started off with several challenging moments in the first half, which saw Ibrahim put the ball in the back of the net after a smooth display of attacking brilliance by a combined force from the midfield which allowed Omokemi give Ibrahim the assist.

Business Administration were determined to give Mass Communication a taste of their own medicine as they continued to break the defensive lines of the Communicators.

Mustido was the man to watch as series of efforts from him was either sent over the bar or stopped by the hands of the Mass Comm goalkeeper with help from Purry’s pin-point grip on loose balls.

Kufour’s  utility of loose balls also defined Mass Comm’s attacking style as he gave space for Bryan and Lekan to penetrate the BusAdmin defence with precise passes.

The match saw several tackles from both sides with Biz Admin getting booked the most until a foul on Omokemi made the referee give a Biz Admin player a red card.

The breakthrough came for Business Administration, when a corner flung through the Mass Comm defence and a shot was sent to the back of the net by a Biz Admin midfielder.

The atmosphere of the game changed after this and it became a tie to give all for in the second half.

Bustido pinning players down with proper dribbling, Chris looking for the best opportunity to shoot after brilliant dribbles, Mass Comm’s  defensive coordination and Biz Admin’s attacking pressure, Both teams using counter attacks and fast-paced games to test keepers and ifiltrate defence, were the highlights of a very interesting first half.

The second half of the match almost brewed arguments between both teams and their supporters but the love of the game quelled the uproar and the match continued on another fast-paced momentum as both teams did their best to break defences.

Bakki and Bustido continued to cause threats to the Mass Comm. Defence and they continued to put pressure on the Communicators’ strong defensive line.

The match ended in a draw and it was straight to the penalties.

The MassComm team lost one of its 5 penalties and two misses from the Biz Admin team meant that the Communicators carries the covered trophy.
