After months of no student union activities in the institution, students of Abraham Adesanya polytechnic (AAPOLY), Ijebu Igbo, Ogun state, on the 31st of August, elected student leaders who will steer the affairs of the 2022/2023 academic year as executives in the student union government.
Recall that the last student union election held was on the 2nd of April, 2021, and executives subsequently graduated on the 8th of December, leaving the office, with management refusing to hold elections.
In what turned out to be low participation, 896 students were able to determine the fate of aspirants vying for different positions.
Abdul-Azeez Olawale from the Mass communication department garnered 510 votes at the poll, making him win against his opponent Abe John who had 377 votes. CAMPUS LIFE gathered that Olawale was able to have an edge against his opponent when his fellow contestant from the Mass Communication department, Toheeb Shittu stepped down a few hours before the election, throwing his weight behind his colleagues.
Olawale’s victory at the poll makes it the first time a mass communication student will get to the top position of the student union government.
Other elected executives include Kuforiji Agbolade - Vice President, Olaitan Ayomide - Gen. secretary, Fetuga Ifeoluwa Stephen - Asst. Gen secretary, Otaniyi Fatima Ayodimeji - Fin. secretary, Oladunjoye olajide - Social director1, Makinde Omotoyosi - Social director2, Joseph Covenant - Sport director2, Akintan Oluwaseun - welfare director1, Oyedokun Temiloluwa - welfare director2, Ogunwole Abiodun - PRO 1, Kolawole Timilehin - PRO 2, Mojeed Oluwaseun -Transport Director.
The inauguration of the new executives has been scheduled to hold on the 16th of September at the institution's main auditorium.
Meanwhile, departmental elections were concluded in various departments with new executives voted in.
In the mass communication department, Sarumi olukayode was voted in as President, Samuel Iyanuoluwa - Vice President, Sokeye Daniel - General secretary, Adegboyega Memunat - Assistant general secretary, Aliyu Aderemi - Financial secretary, Saheed Sodiq -Treasurer, Badru salawa - Social director 1, Adeniran Adebayo - Assistant social director, Akeusola Abdullahi Olamide - Auditor, Gafar Walai - Sport Director 1, Adesanya Sunday - Sport director 2, Oyeleru Deborah - Welfare director, Adesanya Solomon - PRO 1, and Onabanjo Peter - PRO 2.
In Business Administration Department, Adenle Dayo emerged as president, Nosirudeen Yusuf - Vice President, Adenubi Daniel - General secretary, Andrew Victor - Asst. general secretary, Popoola Tomilola - Financial secretary, Sanni Toheeb - Treasurer, Dansu Mathew - PRO 1, Onabanjo Abolaji - PRO 2, Odufuwa Olabisi - Welfare director 1, Lawal Ibukunmi - Welfare director 2, Jimoh Yusuf - Sports director 1, Oyewole Oluwasegun - sports director 2, Moshood Akeem - social director 1, Fashipe Esther - social director 2, and Samuel Aderemi - chief whip.
The accountancy department also had its election and Afolayan opeyemi emerged as president. Other executives include Oyekanmi Caroline - Vice president, Yinusa Opeyemi - General Secretary, Akinrinde Akinleye - Assist. General Secretary, Odubanwo John - Treasurer, Alabi John – financial secretary, Abdulazeez Babatunde - welfare director, Adesanya Victoria - Welfare director 2, Shodeinde Adetutu - social director 1, Ismail Akinpelumi - Social director 2, Ajaguna Babatunde - PRO 1, Anifowoshe Abass - PRO 2, Gafar Aminat - Sport director 1, and Adelaja olatoye - Sport director 2.
