One of the challenges facing Nigeria today is that of internet fraud. From a moralist's point of view, it is robbery in disguise. It is as bad as barging in on a family and forcefully taking their money, properties and other belongings. These so called yahoo boys have gotten to the level ritualism and murder in order to meet their selfish interest for money.
Privileged Nigerians who have the chance of spending time outside the country face so much discrimination as a result of this impression that has tarnished the integrity of Nigerians.
These cyber criminals, after getting the money, spend it wasteful buying expensive wine, exotic cars, designer wears and on mistresses. But has anyone ever wondered why the young one want so much to become like their criminal predecessors? Why they are aspiring to join the perpetuation of such evil on random victims? Not caring about these victim's mental health or how broken they will be after they have being robbed of their money and trust. All of these boils down to the orientation of the youths of today and how their desperation for money has led to them taking criminal actions just to meet the social standard of their peer.
The large amount of youths roam the streets daily desperately in search of employment just to make ends meet. The government has failed to provide the needed avenues for the youths to make a living and so the youths have turned to different choices disregarding how illegal or unorthodox it could be. The people of Nigeria have put faith in the President's promise once before only to be disappointed. In a country like a jungle, a country like Nigeria where survival is the code, no one is ready to make a difference if it won't serve their pocket and feed their family.
The way out of this can never be overemphasized and that is the provision of employment opportunities for the youths. The fastest growing countries today did not leave their youths to eat the crumbs, they let those incentives and ideas embedded in the youths to build their country innovatively and if Nigeria can make use of more youths, a lot will be different.
Lastly, a typical Nigeria will only work to serve and feed his family and pocket. That is the main reason why Nigeria needs an overhaul of leaders.
